Jimmy's team, the Wolverines, played in the city football championship against the Ben Franklin Lions. Is was an outstanding game! In the end, it was a trick play by the Lions that put them up and enabled them to win the game 25-18. Jimmy's already looking forward to next year!

Well our seasons are winding down, somewhat.

The WCS Stars--under the direction of head coach Jim Cummings-- made the district playoffs and we'll travel to Brenham (far away--but it's the play-offs so it's worth it)!

Jimmy's team, the Wolverines, finished the season at 6-1 and finished first in their division. They are play-off bound!

The 7th grade A team at Burk (Jack's team), play their last game tomorrow. There isn't a play-off system at that level (thank goodness). Jack had a pretty good first year of JH football. He made the paper 4 or 5 times as defensive standout and for his touchdown. I've said it before and I know I'll say it again: "Like father, like son!"

*Interesting side note: Jack is # 13, is 13 years old, and wears a size 13 shoe. . .hmmmmmmm

Wii Fit Works for Mii

Well, for those of you who see me on a regular basis you know that I have lost a few pounds over the last few months. I am officially a size 12 today (and almost 30 pounds lighter)!

I started loosing weight back in March, and bought a Wii Fit in June.

At my heaviest, I weighed almost 220 lbs. In June I weighed 191 and this morning I weighed 165!

I get up at 5:15 every morning and run, in addition to doing the Wii Fit, which I never could have done when I weighed 220 lbs. All I can say is. . .I LOVE me some Wii Fit!!!

Jack and Jimmy spent a week at church camp. It was Jimmy's first time to go and Jack's 3rd. They both had a blast!

~Jack earned the Camp Leadership award for his age group!

~Jimmy earned a new sense of independence as he spent his first week away from his parents!

Jack's Headed to Jr. High

It's official, Jack is movin' up to the ranks of Jr. High. He "graduated" from sixth grade on Wednesday and received his official report card stamped with "Assigned to Grade 7!" He also received the President's Education Award for Academic Achievement. . .signed by President GW Bush. Jimmy looked at it said, "Well, I don't want some award signed by Clinton or Obama when I'm in sixth grade." So, I guess if either of those two people end up in the white House, Jimmy will do his best not to achieve academically as to avoid the disgrace of the President's Award! So please, I'm begging all my Blog readers, for the sake of my child's academic achievement, DO NOT vote for either of those two. . . not because of my political affiliation, but for the sake of the children. . . for their academic futures for crying out loud!

Well, in the interest of not turning this into a politically driven Blog, I shift the topic back to Jack!

I am convinced that our oldest son will be a success at whatever it is he peruses. He has athletic ability and scholastic merit. At 6 feet tall, he cast a large shadow (literally and figuratively) for his younger brothers to live in. Jim and I do our best to spread the accolades evenly among the boys, but somehow, Jack always rises to the top.

Jimmy is a very gifted boy in his own right. he has gotten straight A's since kindergarten and he consistently scores high on his achievement tests. The thing, however, that sets Jimmy apart is his heart for God. Jimmy lives a Christ-centered life! He is a quiet leader and I have no doubt he could bring down a giant with nothing more than his faith and a smooth stone . . .and he would never say a word about it to anyone, unless God lead him to.

Joel is one of a kind. I will live my entire life and never meet another person like him. He does things his own way, even if it doesn't work! We recently found out that he has dyslexia. His only response to the news was, "Does this mean I have to get shots?" "Well, No" I told him, "it means that we'll get someone to help you learn." "Oh, is that all?" he replied. See, no big deal! I don't know why I was worried!!

My little brother Matt recently graduated from Baylor Dental School (which as it turns out has no association with Baylor University, but is a part of Texas A&M. . .who knew!?)

Not that I'm proud or anything, but Matty is officially the first Dr. on my mom's side of the family!

Jack and I were able to go to Dallas and be a part of the big event. I cried. . .Jack laughed at me, then gave me a tissue. . .he's such a good son!

Jack's Sports Highlights

It seems that my responsibilities as the Athletic Director include planning and hosting the Athletic Banquet (or at least organizing parent volunteers to host the banquet). As part of the evening's festivities, I am putting together a highlight video. I have been going through CDs filled with pictures of athletes. . . of course my favorites are the ones of Jack! I have to be fair in the video. . .but on my blog, I can be as biased as my heart desires. . .SO for your viewing pleasure, I present the outstanding athletic achievements of my favorite 6th grader!

Jack competed in track for the first time ever this year. Although I would have loved to see him run the 400 M dash, Jack found his niche in the shot put and discus. We were the only school to enter sixth graders in the Jr. High track meets, and Jack really did well against the older boys. He was able to stay in the top 10 (typically the field events have 20+ kids entered) in all the meets he went to. His best throws were 39 feet in the shot and 72 feet in the discus.

Jack played basketball when he was in kindergarten and again when he was in second grade. He hadn't played again until this year.
Since he is 6 feet tall at 12 years old, his coach told him it would be a good idea to learn how to play now and not waste his height! Jack is a fast learner and once he got the hang of game, he earned a staring post position on the middle school team. I was a post too. . .fortunately, he's not as clumsy as I was!

After months of practices, we finally made it to LTC weekend! The kids did great.

Jack got gold in everything but art and puppets--he got silver in both of those.

Jimmy got a gold in all of his events.

The pirate skit I wrote and coached also earned a gold.

There is more to tell, but if a picture's worth a thousand words, I just posted 12,000 words about our weekend!!

On Saturday night our church hosted a fundraiser for Leadership Training for CHRIST for . Participants put together rock impersonation acts and scenes.

Jack did a Weird Al parody of a Bob Dylan song called BOB. Jimmy, Joel and their friend Landon were the Chipmunks. I helped kids from the youth group put together a "Thriller" act. Jim did a puppet rendition of Tom Crusies' famous "Old Time Rock 'N' Roll" scene from Risky Business, and I was Elton John singing "Tiny Dancer" and "Crocodile Rock." It was a lot of fun!

Jimmy, Joel and I went to the park after church, to give Jim some quiet time to study for an upcoming test in one of his classes. After that, we went to Granny and Papa's house to watch the Cowboys "play" (if you could call it that) the Giants and then we celebrated Joel's birthday. All in all, it was a full day!

Happy Birthday JoJo Moose!!!

Jim and I never decided on a name for the boys until they were born and we got better acquainted. Jimmy Kirk, for instance, was going to be Jay Kirk until we saw him, spent the night with him and decided he was definitely a Jimmy Kirk and not so much a "Jay Kirk."
Joel was much the same way. We knew what names we liked, but no final decision could be made until we got to know him better.
Joel weighed in at 10 1/2 pounds when he was born, and my anesthesiologist, not content with leaving his record of Joel's birth labeled "Male Cummings," cleverly assigned Joel the name of "Moose." It seemed to fit, after all, we were in Alaska and he was the biggest baby born in the hospital so far that year--12 days into the year as it were! Jimmy was 14 months old when Joel was born and he couldn't really get the word "Joel" out, so he began calling him JoJo--which quickly morphed into "JoNo" once Joel began crawling. Well, both names stuck and Joel's nick name has been JoJo Moose from that day on. To commemorate the occasion, he gets a moose (or two) for his birthday every year. This year, he made his own!

Well, sadly football is over now. We have started basketball so the grieving for football was short lived.
Jack is playing post for his Jr. High team.
I am coaching the Jr. High girls' team.
Jimmy Kirk is playing for 9-11 year old YMCA team or school is sponsoring and Joel & Jim are Stars' /Lady Stars' biggest fans.

I have to have pictures to post soon. . . Jack is required to wear a shirt and tie on game days and he is very reluctant to allow picture taking. . .but I'm wearing down!

We L-O-V-E football around our house, and there's nothing better than seeing our boy on the field!
Jack began his first season playing Six Man football for his Jr. High team (6th graders are allowed to play w/ the Jr. High at the private school Jack attends). In the season opener against Notre Dame, Jack had 2 touch downs and ran in an extra point. Ths Stars ending up losing to the ND Knights , but it was a close game.

May 16-23, I, along with the high school principal, joined the 2007 Wichita Christian seniors on their Sr. Mission Trip. We worked for 4 days in Pascagoula Mississippi to help with Katrina clean-up, and then traveled to Pensacola Florida for 2 days of fun in the sun. I was blessed to get to be a part of such a great group of kids. They worked hard and never complained once. We did everything from putting in laminate floors to roofing a house! It was an amazing trip and I hope I am asked to chaparone next year's trip!

Busy Weekend

It was a very busy weekend for La Familia Cummings!

My cousin Trey got married to Simone, a wonderful woman we all adore (perhaps Joel loves her more than anyone else in the family, but we all love her just the same).

Jack went to camp with a few of the kids from our church (he really left on Monday, but it's my Blog so I can include it in the weekend if I want to!) He'll be gone a week :-(

The boys and I were in a wreck that probably totaled the van.

Jim is still gone :-(

Jimmy wore a tux for the first time (he was the ring "burier")

Joel learned the physics behind air bag deployment (LOUD and SMOKEY)

Jack and I had our first ride in an ambulance (not as cool as it looks on T.V by the way).

Jack had his first CT scan to check for internal injuries (I'm sure that's not right, so my cousin Chris can correct it)

I learned that if you're going to run into something, City Buses don't give much, but the damage you might inflict can be minimal.

All in all we were pretty busy people this weekend!

The boys and I were in an accident on Saturday afternoon. We're all OK, but I hurt my left hand pretty bad (typing with one hand is very hard by the way!) and Jack has a pretty bad bruise across his chest and belly from the seat belt. He and I went to the ER and they checked us out head to toe and we're going to be fine. . .just really sore!

This morning, the boys and I took Grandma Jody out to put flowers and flags on Papa's grave. After a while I noticed Jack walking around and straightening the flowers and flags on some of the other graves. I told him I thought that was a kind thing to do and he said, "It's the RIGHT thing to do." I just smiled at him and patted him on the back while I thought to myself, "This is my son, with whom I am well pleased!"

Sunday, Joel and the rest of his kindergarten class received new bibles from the church. Our Children's Minister promised each of the children to replace their bible in 12 years, when they graduate from high school!
